How can the structural logic of traditional architecture form a modular type system to navigate diasporic identity?


In traditional Korean 한옥 (Hanok) architecture, 창호 (Chang Ho) refers to the doors and windows. There is a traditional saying that "Chang Ho is the eye of the building" (창호는 사람의 눈이다). Guided by this perspective, my project investigates how these architectural forms can act as a personal filter for navigating modern urban spaces, treating structural translucency as a metaphor for the diasporic experience.

By distilling the Wanjasal (완자살) lattice pattern into a modular typographic system for Hangul and Latin scripts, I am building a home that I can carry with me. These characters create openings that bridge the gap between the Korean temple I visited in my childhood, the high-rises of Jakarta, and the streets of London.

Presented as a technical type specimen and a personal visual essay, the archive is my way of keeping architectural breathing spaces alive and a way to filter my past to find my place in the present. My identity is a structure I am actively building every day, letter by letter.
