Toki
︎︎︎(team project with Ying Jia And and Nurul Huda) / RSA Student Design Awards 2022 Commendation
Responding to the brief on how families, carers, and communities can be supported to play and learn more creatively at home, my team created Toki. Toki is a service and product design proposal that supports parents with resources and teaches them to play more creatively with their children. By supporting low-income families through access to resources, Toki aims to create opportunities for creative learning at the comfort of their homes without any additional cost or concerns.
PROBLEM
Singapore is among the most expensive cities globally. Low-income parents with financial complications, time constraints, and vulnerable housing conditions struggle with the lack of resources to invest in enrichment activities and playing opportunities for their children at home. This results in inequality in their development and education.
PROPOSAL
Distribution of a toolkit that includes a play manual and activity kits with materials, which eligible low-income households can redeem for free at various TOKI vending machines placed in community centers. By supporting low-income families through access to resources, TOKI aims to create opportunities for creative learning in the comfort of their homes without any additional costs or concerns.

PROCESS
Through primary and secondary research, we found out that low-income families lack affordability, knowledge, and resources. They also struggle with children outgrowing or losing interest in toys quickly and the excessive use of digital devices.
